The London Fire Brigade has issued a safety note regarding the charging of e-bikes and e-scooters due to 116 fires in 2022, most of which occurred at home.

MJA Investments wants to clarify our stance on storing e-scooters and e-bikes that require battery charging. While we cannot prohibit you from owning an e-scooter or e-bike, we strongly advise against purchasing new ones or adding to your current collection.

If you’re thinking about buying an e-scooter or e-bike, it’s important to be aware of the fire risks to yourself and other occupants of the building.

MJA Investments acknowledges that some tenants may already own e-scooters or e-bikes, and we urge you to review the London Fire Fact Sheet accessible via the link here.

The key information if you own an E-Scooter or E-Bike is as follows:

  • Consideration is made that MJA Investments does not permit the use of these or storage within common areas of the building.
  • Please check that batteries are not damaged and if they are please replace them immediately.
  • Batteries can get warm during use, so please allow them to cool down before attempting to charge and please do not leave a warm battery unattended.
  • Batteries must always be charged on a hard and flat surface where heat can dissipate & never left unattended
  • Ensure you do not store an E-Bike or E-Scooter on a route that prevents your escape in the event of a fire.
